SJNY Welcomes New Associate Director of Career Development
As a first-generation college student from Brooklyn, her time as an undergraduate student with a lack of networking contacts drove Ms. Murphy’s desire to assist future students obtain careers.
“I have always been interested in helping students and I have a passion for this particular area of higher education,” said Ms. Murphy, the Brooklyn Campus’ new associate director of the Office of Career Preparation and Professional Development.
Ms. Murphy helps students in meeting their career goals through scheduled individual career counseling appointments, online assistance and group workshops.
Additionally, she organizes job fairs and on-campus recruiting events, counsels students about graduate school and serves as a liaison to the Office of Institutional Advancement to connect students with internship and job opportunities offered by St. Joseph’s alumni.
“As a Brooklynite, it is an honor to work for St. Joseph’s,” she said. “I am proud to be a part of this University and I look forward to working with such amazing students and preparing them for their careers.”
Ms. Murphy most recently held the positions of Recruitment Coordinator and Coordinator of Employer Relations at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). She holds an M.S.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from Baruch College and a B.A. in Economics with a Concentration in Finance from St. Francis College.
When she is not assisting students at St. Joseph’s, Ms. Murphy enjoys attending Broadway shows, participating in “non-scary Halloween things,” watching reality TV and spending time with dogs.
