Dear St. Joseph’s University community,

Welcome to the latest issue of the SJNY Magazine, an edition that consists of interesting stories about the incredible people who help make St. Joseph’s University, New York the unique and special institution it is.

In 1916, when the Sisters of St. Joseph founded a small college for women in Brooklyn, they were bold, imaginative, inspirational and transformative. This issue’s cover story details new articulation agreements that take inspiration from our founders’ calling and elevate SJNY’s commitment to educational accessibility and student success.

One accord opens a door to St. Joseph’s for more students seeking an affordable, quality education. The second provides a guaranteed pathway for our students to take their education, built on integrity, intellectual rigor, social responsibility, spiritual depth and service, into a challenging graduate-level program. Both articulation agreements further strengthen SJNY’s transformational academic experience.

To build a future that continues on that trajectory, while honoring our most cherished traditions, SJNY has a new comprehensive fundraising campaign underway. This exciting endeavor is bold and ambitious: it seeks to raise $25 million to expand academic programs and research opportunities, invest in our facilities, build scholarship opportunities and enrich student life and athletics across our Brooklyn and Patchogue campuses.

Throughout these pages, you will also find news about our committed staff; meet our two new trustees; see photos from special gatherings; read updates from classmates and faculty; and revel in athletic achievements. There is also a touching farewell to a beloved and dedicated member of the SJNY family.

Yet another source of pride are the seven people honored at our fourth annual Esse Non Videri Gala this past fall. I invite you to read each of their stories, and learn more about how they are making the world a better place through their time, talent and treasures. They truly live our motto, “To be, not to seem.”

As we move deeper into the year and closer to commencement, there will be even more stories to tell.

With gratitude,
