A Significant STEM Grant
St. Joseph’s University, in partnership with seven peer institutions, has received a $3.5 million, five-year grant from the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program, which will allow SJNY to support students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) on their journeys to becoming future leaders in STEM through seminars, career support and faculty-led research opportunities.
Online Recognition From U.S. News
SJNY Online was once again ranked as a Best Online Program by U.S. News & World Report for 2024. Ranked No. 84 in Best Online Bachelor’s in Business Programs and No. 153 in Best Online Bachelor’s Programs, the University moved up eight spots from last year’s rankings. Launched in 2015, the Online Campus has previously been recognized by U.S. News and World Report for excellence in a number of categories.
FOLIO AWARD GOES TO SJNY
SJNY received this year’s Fair Media Council Folio Award for Best Use of Instagram at the 2024 Folio Awards, held at the Garden City Hotel. The annual event recognizes national, New York regional and Long Island hyperlocal news stories that illustrate exceptional and relevant journalism, as well as social media campaigns and assets that educate, inspire or enlighten individuals.
SJNY Hosts Youth Summit
More than 160 students from 16 local high schools attended Vision Long Island’s annual Youth Summit this spring at SJNY’s Long Island Campus. A number of the workshops were led by SJNY instructors, including Adrianna Silva; Jo Anne Durovich, Ph.D., LMSW; Konstantine Rountos, Ph.D.; Tom Petriano, Ph.D.; Barbara Morrell, Ph.D.; and Corrine Donavan, Ph.D.
Harmony Week Leadership
St. Joseph’s stepped into the spotlight during UN Interfaith Harmony Week to lead a critical dialogue on the importance of interfaith cooperation. Partnering with the Tzu Chi Foundation, Chan Space New York, and Global Family for Love and Peace, SJNY facilitated an engaging discussion on the intersection of various spiritual traditions. Psychology professor Peter Lin, Ph.D., was host of the panel, while Tom Petriano, Ph.D., chair of SJNY’s religious studies department, participated on the panel.
SURF’s Up
The 2024 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship is providing $4,000 stipends for eight students to work on their research projects for 10 weeks over the summer, which is the equivalent of 20 hours per week at $20 per hour. It’s the highest amount of fellowships awarded in the program’s three-year history.
